How Does Autism Therapy Work?
Autism therapy services can help both children and adults on the spectrum create positive thought patterns and healthy behaviors. Autistic individuals often struggle in noisy, bright, or chaotic environments because their brains struggle to process everything at once, resulting in panic attacks.
They may also have difficulty understanding nuanced communication, which can make it difficult to build meaningful relationships or community with their peers. Specialized therapy can help autistic children and adults learn to identify stressors, create healthy coping behaviors, and communicate more easily with allistic individuals.
If you struggle with sensory sensitivity, depression, relationship struggles, loneliness, or miscommunication, therapy can help you create coping strategies and overcome these challenges.
GATE Therapy Intake Process
When you work with GATE, receiving autism therapy is easy. We follow key steps, including consultation, evaluation, and appointments.

Consultation
The first step to receiving treatment is to provide our team with important information. This includes prior diagnosis, insurance, treatment desires, and whether you prefer in-person or telehealth sessions. You’ll also be set up on our confidential web-based program, TheraNest, which will keep all of your information and future appointments in one place.

Evaluation
One of our licensed counselors will help you complete a self-evaluation. They will then conduct their own evaluation to determine what level of care is best for your mental health needs. Once you’re happy with the outlook of your therapy experience, we’ll create a treatment plan.
Appointment
You can confirm, cancel, or reschedule your appointments at any time. At this point in the therapy process, you can also use credit card information for co-payments. All of this can be done through TheraNest, so the process is simple and stress-free.
